New Delhi, April 30: Ness Wadia gets 2-yr jail for cannabis possession in Japan: Ness Wadia, business tycoon and heir to the Wadia Group, has been sentenced to a two-year prison term in Japan for possessing drugs.

According to a report in the Financial Times, Ness Wadia was found in possession of 25 grams of cannabis resin in March, for which he has been sentenced.

The report further states that Ness Wadia was arrested in Japan in March.

The Wadia Group has confirmed the sentence and said that the Japanese court did award a jail term to Ness Wadia, but the sentence has been suspended.

A spokesperson of the Wadia Group said that the development will not impact Ness Wadia in the discharge of any of his responsibilities and he will continue to play the role that he has done hitherto, both within the Group and outside. Ness Wadia is the son and heir to Nusli Wadia’s business empire, the Wadia Group.

According to the Financial Times report, Ness Wadia was found in possession of 25-gram drugs at the New Chitose Airport in the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

The report also states that at the time of arrest, Ness Wadia admitted to possessing the cannabis, which he said was meant for personal consumption.

Wadia spent a period in detention before his indictment on March 20 and an undisclosed period of detention before a court hearing.
